چکیده

Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) is a debilitating condition characterized by damage to the spinal cord, resulting in loss of function, mobility, and sensation. Although increasingly prevalent US, no FDA-approved therapy exists due unfortunate complexity condition, difficulties SCI may be furthered development SCI-related complications, such as osteoporosis. demonstrates two crucial stages for consideration: primary stage secondary stage. While suggested immediate irreversible, proposed promising window opportunity therapeutic intervention. Enolase, metabolic enzyme upregulated after SCI, performs non-glycolytic functions, promoting inflammatory events via extracellular degradative actions increased production cytokines chemokines. Neuron-specific enolase (NSE) serves biomarker functional neurons following inhibition NSE has been demonstrated reduce signs injury ameliorate dysfunction. This Viewpoint article involves activation regulation RANK-RANKL pathway summarizes succinctly mechanisms influencing osteoclast-mediated resorption bone SCI. Our laboratory proposes that SCI-induced response decrease osteoclast activity, limiting chances skeletal tissue

Enolase and Acute Spinal Cord Injury

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a debilitating neurological condition that affects approximately 285,000 people living in the United States [1]. Each year there are 17,500 new cases of SCI, most of whom are males (81%). Less than 1% of people hospitalized for this injury recover complete neurological function by the time they are discharged, and for most, the effects are life-long. Depending on age...

Spinal cord control of movement: implications for locomotor rehabilitation following spinal cord injury.

In recent years, our understanding of the spinal cord's role in movement control has been greatly advanced. Research suggests that body weight support (BWS) walking and functional electrical stimulation (FES), techniques that are used by physical therapists, have potential to improve walking function in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI), perhaps long after the stage of spontaneous recov...

A Review of the Occurrence and Mechanisms of Induction of Osteoporosis Following Spinal Cord Injury

Introduction: Spinal cord injury (SCI) causes devastating injuries in patients. The main mechanisms of the pathogenesis of secondary injury include nerve degeneration, gliosis, and inflammation. Spinal cord injury induces a disorder or failure in several organs due to the vital role of the spinal cord in regulating bodily functions. Osteoporosis is a consequence of spinal cord injury that occur...

Compound Action Potential of Isolated Spinal Cord: A Biophysical Analysis to Address Activity of Individual Fibers Following Contusion Injury

Compound action potential (CAP) of spinal cord represents valuable properties of neural fibers including excitability, rate of myelination and membrane integrity. These properties are measured using amplitude, latency and area under curve of CAPs recorded from spinal cord. Here, the isolated spinal cord was set in a double sucrose gap (DSG) chamber and its response to intracellular stimulation ...
